A New Look At Jean-Paul Sartre And Simone de Beauvoir:

Jean-Paul Sartre and Simone de Beauvoir are the Bonny and Clyde of Philosophy.
They are both iconic Parisians who used to hang out in the mythical Café de Flore in Saint-Germain des Prés.

Jean-Paul Sartre invented Existentialism and Simone de Beauvoir was one of the inventors of modern feminism.
But behind the legends, were two human beings whose secrets and complexities were discovered after their deaths.

During their a 50 year union, they each had many affairs and laisons, which they recounted to each other daily, in detail, in cafés. Some see their relationships as liberated. Others see them as depraved. How did they each feel about these relationships? How did these relationships influence their work and legacies?

When such brilliant people fall in love, it makes for a fascinating love story.

Edith de Belleville is a tour guide in Paris and organizes guided visits related to great moments in French history, particularly pertaining to French women. She is also a lawyer and a certified French teacher to foreigners. She is prolific and has written many articles and recently did a radio program with an Australian journalist about Simone de Beauvoir
